Richard served for over 25 years as an infantry officer in the Canadian Army and has been an internal and external consultant for a number of years. His proudest moment in the military was successfully commanding a peacekeeping force in one of the worst flashpoints of Bosnia – Drvar. His resolve and diplomatic skills in dealing with local authorities, citizens, and representatives of the international community were instrumental in securing the safe return of over 2,000 displaced persons during a six-month period. At the time, this led historian David Bercuson to write in the National Post that Richard Martin and his company “can do no wrong”. Being bilingual and simultaneously English- and French-Canadian helped in such an environment, because he understands the advantages of cultural diversity and how it can benefit multinational organizations.
